I suddenly had one of those panicking thoughts last night… which has sort of been resolved this morning – but not without much angst I can tell you. Especially when I also realised that I need to go through and standardise days and timings…
The question was had the new moon been sighted from Jerusalem yet – by the naked eye? According to all the charts and scientific calculations the new moon crescent was happening on the 10th March 2024. Yet the spotters out in Israel were silent on this very important matter. Additionally, the groups that were searching the fields for ripe barely were debating the validity of the condition – saying that whilst there was a number of fields where the barely was ripe – this was due to poor soil conditions and that the majority of the barley was not yet ready.
Each year at this time – I find myself reconnecting with the seasonal cycles. My OCD – who is quite insistent that things are orderly and is quite attached to the Gregorian calendars – is now faced with the ‘natural’ me having a rather intense debate around “nope – we can’t just go with any old calendar – we NEED absolutely to wait for the actual physical sighting of the new moon – from Jerusalem – before we begin our count.
Timing, indeed God’s timing in this matter is of vital importance – get it wrong and we turn up at His Appointed Feast’s on completely the wrong day. So yes, just a tad important.
Whenisthenewmoon.com is one of my preferred go to sites in this matter. Only so much as it records in an easy to understand the sightings of the New Moon as witnessed in Jerusalem. So, I can say with some degree of confidence that the 13th biblical month began on the evening of the 11th March 2024
